Monday Nov 29, 2021
Monday Nov 29, 2021
On this western themed No-Shave-November episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched the recently released western Old Henry from director Potsy Ponciroli, and staring Tim Blake Nelson. This film is a classic in the making with an outstanding cast, interesting plot/story, and a traditional approach to the story of a man running from his past.
We also enjoyed a couple of amazing beers during the film which we discuss in some detail. The first was a Golden Ale from Wayfinder Brewing (OR), and the second was a fest bier from Holy Mountain Brewing (WA). Give the episode a listen to hear why these two beers went so well with the film.

Movie And A Beer Episode 67: The Spine Of Night
Thursday Nov 11, 2021
Thursday Nov 11, 2021
On this gory and stout driven episode of Movie And A Beer, we review the recently released rotoscoped animated feature The Spine of Night. This fantasy epic is staged in three main stories being told by the swamp queen Tzod (voiced by Lucy Lawless) and follows the bloom (blue flower of power) and it's influence on mankind.
We enjoyed a couple of stouts (to celebrate international stout day) and an ESB during the film from Guinness, Belching Beaver, and Ferment Brewing. Give the episode a listen to hear our take on these beers and how much they didn't go with the film.

Movie And A Beer Episode 66: Night Teeth
Tuesday Nov 02, 2021
Tuesday Nov 02, 2021
On this scary vampire-themed episode of Movie And A Beer we review the Netflix exclusive Night Teeth and discuss a couple of excellent darker beers to go along with this darker film. It follows Benny, a college-aged wanna-be DJ/Producer, and brother to Jay, an anti-vamp Hispanic gangster in LA. Benny chauffeurs around Blaire and Zoe around LA from party to party and quickly discovers he's driving around a couple of blood-sucking vampires seeking a night of fun and violence.
We really enjoyed the stouts that we had during the film from Away Days Brewing and Little Beast Brewing. Give the episode a listen to learn about this beer style and how well they went with the visuals.

Movie And A Beer Episode 65: Evil Dead
Thursday Oct 28, 2021
Thursday Oct 28, 2021
We explore the beginnings of the 'cabin in the woods' horror genre on this episode of Movie And A Beer with Evil Dead, the 1981 classic film by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, and Richard DeManincor. Five friends travel to a cabin in the woods, where they unknowingly release flesh-possessing demons from the Necronomicon.
There were a couple of outstanding collaboration IPA's that paired up nicely with the gory scenes in the film. The first was a unique double NE IPA from Kings and Daughters with Reubens Brewing, and the second was a standard IPA from Brothers Cascadia and Gigantic Brewing. Give the episode a listen to hear our take on these beers and the film.

Movie And A Beer Episode 64: Muppets Haunted Mansion
Friday Oct 22, 2021
Friday Oct 22, 2021
On this fun and musical episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched The Muppets Haunted Mansion movie with our youth correspondent Otto. While we did gorge ourselves on candy, popcorn, and butter beer, there was some fun insights into how scary a Muppet ghost really is and how much the human actors must have had while making this musical scary experience.
We also enjoyed some 'seasonal' pumpkin beers from Elysian Brewing and finished it off with an NE IPA from Rogue Brewing. All of the spiced and fall beers were on point, the IPA was a bit of a stretch for us. Give the episode a listen to hear more about these and our fond memories of the Muppet Show's of the past.

Movie And A Beer Episode 63: Candyman (2021)
Sunday Oct 17, 2021
Sunday Oct 17, 2021
On this terror-iffic episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched the 2021 release, Candyman. This film takes place in Chicago 20+ years after the first one and continues the saga of the ghost that haunts the ghetto, seeking justice against those that wronged him (or just anyone that says his name five times).
We picked out a couple of beers from the fridge to enjoy with this film, and luckily both were winners. A Pale Ale from Heater Allen (collab with Notch Brewing) and an imperial IPA from Flatland Brewing that brought in a bit of a surprise ending like the film did. Give the episode a listen to hear more about these and the film.

Movie And A Beer Episode 61: Shows to binge - Ted Lasso Season 02
Monday Oct 11, 2021
Monday Oct 11, 2021
On this episode of Movie And A Beer, we review the much anticipated season 2 of the Apple TV show, Ted Lasso and briefly chat about the many beers we enjoyed while binging it. This season brings a lot of depth and insight into the main and secondary characters of the Ted Lasso show. While there are a lot of moral and ethical questions raised during some of the characters' story arc's, there was a definite theme throughout of forgiveness and acceptance of one's faults.
If you choose to binge this show, or watch it week by week as it was meant, be sure to pick a beer or drink that you're going to enjoy, and save something with some pucker for the end, as there's some good surprises in store for you!

Movie And A Beer Episode 60: Spaceballs
Wednesday Sep 08, 2021
Wednesday Sep 08, 2021
For this special short episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched the classic Mel Brooks spoof spectacular Spaceballs while sipping on some fresh hop beers. While the language tends to be more adult than not, the film itself is full of physical slapstick comedy and tons of puns that most young adults would enjoy.
The beers we had with the film were out of the fridge and happened to be a set of "fresh hop" beers from Level Brewing here in Portland. Fresh hop refers to the beer being made with fresh, not dried, hops. This does make the flavor profiles shift a bit towards the 'vegital' profile, which works better with some styles than others. Listen in to hear more about this.

Movie And A Beer Episode 59: Zoolander
Wednesday Sep 01, 2021
Wednesday Sep 01, 2021
On this LIVE recording of Movie And A Beer from Chill N' Fill here in Portland Oregon, we watched Zoolander as part of their Monday Movie Night and enjoyed a local fresh hop beer from Stormbreaker Brewing. As you might imagine, a comedy full of 1990's actors, models, and superstars has its bright moments, it definitely didn't age well and we had some issues with some of the scenes.
We really enjoyed the beer provided by the staff and afterwords, chatting with Gabi, one of the great employees at Chill N' Fill. The fresh hop Cream Ale from was pretty crushable and we agreed it went pretty well with the movie as would any lighter ale you might pick. Give the episode a listen to hear more about Chill N' Fill and our take on the beer!

Movie And A Beer Episode 58: Batman (1989)
Friday Aug 13, 2021
Friday Aug 13, 2021
Once again on Movie And A Beer we visit the 'Superhero' genre of films with the titular 1989 film Batman. Staring Michael Keaton (Batman), Jack Nicholson (Joker), and Kim Basinger (Vicki Vale). With super cheesy practical effects, and a story focused on the Joker's origin story, this film has a lot of nostalgia and not a lot of plot. Even our youth correspondent Otto agrees, not really that great of a film.
We enjoyed some great snacks and a few beers while watching it from Iron Horse Brewing (a dark multiple-identity ale) and a decent brown from 10 Barrel Brewing. Listen in to the episode to hear about these great beers and how they helped us get through the film.

Movie And A Beer Episode 57: No Sudden Move
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
This time around on Movie And A Beer we review the film No Sudden Move. Steven Soderbergh comes back to the cinema with this 1950's gangster classic. Starring Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, and David Harbour, it takes place in 1954 Detroit where small-time criminals are hired to babysit a family while the husband is forced to steal a document from his boss only to learn that it was a double cross to get something more valuable.
We had a couple of local beers with this film. A Pale Ale from Migration Brewing and a IPA from Full Sail Brewing, both were ok, one went a little better than the other. Give the episode a listen for some insights into these beers and some subtle hints to how the film ends.

Movie And A Beer Episode 56: America The Motion Picture
Friday Jul 09, 2021
Friday Jul 09, 2021
On this most patriotic July 4th episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched, discuss, drank beer to America The Motion Picture. An animated comedy and historically based 'Bro' story of the founding of our great country, with lots and lots and lots of artistic liberties. If you're a fan of Drunk History, you'll appreciate the storytelling aspect of this crazy journey through time and for those that are fans of tea, you're outta luck.
We anticipated that this movie would require some beer chugging to get through, and we selected a couple of beers that represented the 'Brits' and 'Merica', specifically from Alesmith Brewing (San Diego) and Stickmen Brewing (Portland). Give the episode a listen and hear all about it.

Movie And A Beer Episode 55: Luca
Monday Jul 05, 2021
Monday Jul 05, 2021
On this kid friendly episode of Movie And A Beer we watched Luca, a story about sea monsters learning about themselves and how people can accept you even if you're different. The three main characters form an amazing bond of friendship while trying to win a big race with hopes of buying a Vespa.
We also enjoyed a couple of really nice beers to help keep us cool and refreshed during the film. One was a Lager from Good Life Brewing and the other was a NE IPA from New Belgium Brewing. Both provided a pleasant supporting role in our enjoyment of the film. Give this episode a listen to learn more about these beers and some new perspectives on fish.

Movie And A Beer Episode 54: Palm Springs
Sunday Jul 04, 2021
Sunday Jul 04, 2021
On this episode of Movie And A Beer we discuss the movie Palm Springs, a 'Groundhog Day' trope stuck in the desert starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti as two nihilists hipsters stuck in a time loop while finding themselves.
We enjoyed a number of beers and selected a few that went well with the movie. Specifically a nice ale from local micro-brewery Away Days Brewing and an IPA from a variety pack (via Costco) by New Belgium Brewing, along with a hard kombucha from JuneShine. Give it a listen to hear more.

Movie And A Beer Episode 53: Ghostbusters
Tuesday Jun 15, 2021
Tuesday Jun 15, 2021
On this most epic old school episode of Moive And A Beer, we watched the classic 1984 blockbuster Ghostbusters while enjoying three different scary but sweet beers. We discuss the finer points of proton packs and share our favorite memories and lines from the movie and participated in one of our favorite local podcasts with our youth correspondent Otto and his creation, Movie and a Snack.
The beers gathered for this episode are from across the US. Starting with a neon green kettle sour from Tripping Animals Brewing (FL), followed by a chocolate wheat beer from Weldwerks Brewing (CO), and completing the menage-a-trois with a crazy sludgy fruit cheesecake smoothie/juice beer from Oakshire Brewing (OR). Give it a listen and hear our take on these beers and how they went with the movie.

Movie And A Beer Episode 52: Nobody
Monday Jun 07, 2021
Monday Jun 07, 2021
In this mid-life crisis episode of Movie And A Beer, we discuss the recently released film Nobody staring Bob Odenkirk of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul fame as Hutch Mansell, as a retired 'Auditor' that's now going through a crisis of his own making. While the film does have a lot of violence, it's only because it has to happen.
We enjoyed a couple of local IPA's from Ft. George Brewing and Block 15 Brewing and had a bit of a fight-club approach to deciding which won the evening. Listen in as we discuss this 'everyday man's John Wick' approach to fighting and our approach to these beers.

Movie And A Beer Episode 51: Mars Attacks!
Friday May 28, 2021
Friday May 28, 2021
On this exceptional episode of Movie And A Beer, we review the 1996 classic Mars Attacks! and compare three IPA's while laughing away at the crazy antics of the aliens. Mars Attacks! is a spoof on the 1950's era Sci-Fi flick with cheesy special effects and lots of physical comedy to help tell a fun story. The film has a cornucopia of Hollywood elite making the best of the alien invasion trying to escape the impending doom.
We shifted our approach this time around for the beers and picked three IPA's from Elysian Brewing, Ecliptic Brewing, and Ninkasi Brewing that had 'space' related names to compare while watching. While some we had enjoyed two of the three before, there was a surprise among them. Listen in to hear more!

Movie And A Beer Episode 50: Beerfest
Wednesday May 12, 2021
Wednesday May 12, 2021
In honor of our 50th episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched and discuss the great beer-drinking film, Beerfest. This film is one of the many brought to you by The Broken Lizard comedy group so you know there's going to be plenty of jokes and laughs to go 'round. We empathized with the brothers as they gathered their team and trained to become some of the best beer guzzlers in the US.
We enjoyed 4 different German beers while we chuckled our way through the film to include 2 Kolsch and 2 Pilsners. Listen in and hear our take on why these went well with the film, and how you might enjoy drinking your own 'boot' without getting a face full.

Movie And A Beer Episode 49: Nomadland
Friday Apr 30, 2021
Friday Apr 30, 2021
On this episode of Movie And A Beer, we discuss the Oscar award-winning best picture Nomadland and enjoy a few beers while watching. This film depicts the population of people that live as 'nomads'. They roam the desert SW and midwest of the U.S. living out of their vehicles working part-time and seasonal jobs while enjoying a life free of the oppression of the mighty dollar. Most of them are of the baby boomer generation that either lost their careers, homes, and families during the great recession in 2008 or have chosen to live the nomad lifestyle.
The two beers we enjoyed during the film were a locally made American Adjunct Lager from Grains of Wrath Brewing and an imported red-bean, vanilla, and cocoa stout from Japas Cervejaria. Give the episode a listen to hear our thoughts on this beer and film
